Beware: Are you using this free resource?
Free resource: cheap clip art and/or
animated gifs
If you are using one of these free resources, beware!
1. These downloads can hide computer viruses.
2. There is nothing that screams 'amateur web designer' more.
INTERNET SECURITY
I recently gave a talk at a home schooling convention on Inernet
security. In preparing for the talk I did a lot of research and
discovered how dangerous many of these free downloads can be.
It is easy for the unscrupulous to add computer viruses to these
download.s Unless you have software to detect these ugly bugs, you
are wiser to avoid them completely.
(If you want to learn more about Internet security, please send me
an email. If there is enough interest I could do a webinar on the
topic.)
AMATEUR WEB DESIGN
There are several dead give aways for an amateur designed website:
** Overuse of cheap clip art
** Animated gifs - too much
** Complex backgrounds
** Inconsistent site colors/colors that don't match
** Huge graphics that take forever to download
Now, before I condemn too much, let me admit - "Been there, done
that" !!!
I was so excited when I first started learning web design at all the
cool things I could do. I went overboard with the graphics and the
distractions.
It wasn't until I started taking classes that I realized all the
mistakes I was making.
Your website reflects you and your business. A cheap looking website
translates to a cheap business.
Take a critical eye to your website and see if your graphics are
enhancing your credibility or detracting.
NOTE: One of the most valuable bonuses of the Website
Design class is the video on "Website Critiques". The critique was
done b a master web designer.
Everyone on that webinar learned what to look for in good web
design, how not confuse a visitor, where to place your offer and
much, much more.
If you are enrolled in the Website Design Class, you will get access
to this recording as a part of the class.
BUT it is not too late. You have only missed one class which was
recorded. If you sign up today, I will work with you to get caught
up and learn proper web design.

most Windows installations.

GIMP
GIMP is an open source software that has tremendous capability!
Advantage: Free, tons of functionality
Disadvantage: Difficult to learn; limited tutorials online
PHOTOSHOP
The most widely used graphics program by professional designers.
Advantages: Tons of features; tremendous number of online tutorials
Disadvantages: Price - it is not cheap
NOTE: More information on GIMP and PhotoShop in future newsletters.
Want FREE Traffic?
One of my successful ways to drive free traffic is through articles.
You notice I didn't say 'favorite.' That is not because of the
effectiveness but because I hate to write... :o)
Graphics
One of my favorite sites for graphics is
www.istockphoto.com
The graphics aren't free but they are very inexpensive to use for
your own website.
NOTE: My graphics designer uses istock and is going to be teaching a
class on how to use Photoshop to design professional looking
graphics.
Stay tuned for more information.
